
2009 Results: New York State
On the 2009 New York Math and English/Language Arts exams, Uncommon Schools’ 1,000 students, grades three through eight – 99% of whom are Black and Latino – collectively closed the “achievement gap,” out-performing the state’s White students.

Excellence Boys Charter School of Bedford Stuyvesant posted outstanding results on the 2009 New York State assessments.




2009 results for North Star Academy will be published in the fall. The school expects to continue its track record of success, given that the school attained outstanding results during the 2007-08 school year.

In 2008, 100% of North Star's senior class was accepted to college. Over the past four years North Star's four-year college placement rate ranks highest among all high schools in New Jersey. 2008 graduates are attending such colleges as American University, Cornell University, Howard University, Lehigh University, Oberlin College, and the University of Virginia.
Middle School results include the following:
Overall, across 5th through 8th grades, 86% of North Star’s students scored advanced or proficient on the Math exam, besting the overall state average by 16 percentage points and the White student average by six percentage points. On the ELA exam, 78% of North Star’s students scored advanced or proficient, topping the state average by 11 percentage points.
At North Star’s two middle schools, 100% of 8th graders scored advanced or proficient on the 2008 New Jersey State ELA exam, compared to 81% of 8th graders across the state. Further, 100% of 8th graders scored advanced or proficient on the 2008 New Jersey State math exam, compared to 68% of 8th graders across the state.


Williamsburg Collegiate Charter School, the first of the Collegiate schools, is the #1 ranked charter school in New York City, due in part to the school's exceptional results in 2008-09. 100% of the school's students in grades 5 - 8 scored Advanced or Proficient on the 2009 New York State Math Exam.


Kings Collegiate Charter School, which opened in August 2007, continued to achieve strong results in its second year:


Bedford Stuyvesant Collegiate Charter School, which opened in August 2008, achieved solid results in its first year:


True North Rochester Preparatory Charter School posted exceptional results in its third year.



The first Preparatory school, Leadership Preparatory Bedford Stuyvesant Charter School, administered the New York State Exams for the first time in 2009, to the school's first 3rd grade cohort, and posted impressive results.
