Under the leadership of Brett Peiser, Boston Collegiate Charter School established a track record as one of the highest-performing schools in Massachusetts. From 2002-2006, Boston Collegiate was the only school in Massachusetts to have 100% of its 10th grade students pass the Math and English MCAS exams, a statewide graduation requirement. To establish additional schools based largely on this model, Mr. Peiser serves as the Managing Director of Collegiate Charter Schools.
Collegiate opened its first school, Williamsburg Collegiate Charter School, in Brooklyn in summer 2005. Williamsburg Collegiate is led by Principal Julie Trott, a former stellar teacher from Boston Collegiate, and Thackston Lundy, the school’s Director of Operations. On New York City Department of Education’s 2007 progress reports, Williamsburg Collegiate was the #1 ranked school among the 1,200+ public schools graded.
Kings Collegiate Charter School, the network's second school, opened in the Brownsville/East Flatbush area of Brooklyn in summer 2007. Kings Collegiate is co-led by Lauren Harris and Laura Lee. Lauren Harris is a former Math teacher at Roxbury Preparatory Charter School and Laura Lee is a former management consultant who also served as the founding Director of Analytics for NYC DOE’s Office of Student Enrollment Planning and Operations.
Bedford Stuyvesant Collegiate Charter School, the network’s third school, opens in summer 2008. Like all Collegiate middle schools, the school will begin with 81 students in grade 5 before expanding to approximately 275 students in grades 5 through 8. Bedford Stuyvesant Collegiate will be led by Principal Mabel Lajes-Guiteras, former Literacy Department Chair at Boston Preparatory Charter School, and Director of Operations Melissa D’Agostino, a former PriceWaterhouse consultant and math teacher in Washington Heights.
Collegiate initially aims to grow to three additional middle schools and two high schools, with the first high school opening in summer 2009. With a second phase of growth, including the creation of six elementary schools, Collegiate would grow to 14 schools serving nearly 5,000 students in New York City.
