Paul Powell Founding Principal

Paul Powell spent the last year as a principal resident at True North Rochester Prep where he taught 6th grade Math Procedures and served as a member of the leadership team. Prior to working with Uncommon Schools, Paul spent two years as a Program Director with Teach For America New York City, managing and training secondary math and science teachers throughout several boroughs. Paul also worked at the 2005 Philadelphia Institute as a Corps Member Advisor. He started his teaching career as a L.A. corps member where he taught high school math at Locke Senior High and was named a Sue Lehmann Regional Finalist. Paul received his M.A. in Secondary Education from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and his B.A. in Mathematics from Goucher College.
Anna Hall Director of Operations

Before joining Troy Prep as Director of Operations, Anna worked as an Operations leader for the North Atlantic Region of Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions. Anna began her career in education as a Teach for America Corps Member in Eastern North Carolina as a 7th grade teacher. Anna holds a BA in Politics from Princeton University, and a Master’s in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School. Her Master’s thesis examining education funding policy in Massachusetts was awarded the Fischer prize and has been published by the Rappaport Institute.
Doug Lemov Uncommon Schools Managing Director

Doug Lemov is a Managing Director of Uncommon Schools and Superintendent of its True North Public Schools network. Mr. Lemov is formerly the President of School Performance, an Albany, NY-based organization that helps schools maximize student achievement by using data to drive decision-making. He was formerly Vice President for Accountability at the State University of New York Charter Schools Institute, the leading authorizer of charters in New York, where he designed and implemented a nationally recognized school accountability system. He is also a founder and the former principal of the Academy of the Pacific Rim Charter School in Boston, a high performing urban charter school. He served as a consultant to such nationally known organizations as KIPP, New Leaders for New Schools and Building Excellent Schools and is a Trustee of the New York Charter Schools Association. He holds a BA from Hamilton College, an MA from Indiana University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
