The following is a list of frequently asked questions.

What is a charter school?
A charter school is an independently run public school granted greater flexibility in its operations, in return for greater accountability for performance. New York charter schools must have their charters renewed every five years. Charter schools accept students completely at random through a lottery.

Is there a cost to attend your school?
Absolutely not. Charter schools are tuition-free, like all public schools. All students, regardless of background, are eligible to submit an application for the lottery.

How many students are in each class at Rochester Prep?
Each class has approximately 26 students with 78 students in each grade.

Do you provide transportation and breakfast and lunch?
Yes. Students at our school are eligible for the same transportation and food services provided for all Rochester public school students.

My child is on an IEP or receiving other special services, can you accommodate his/her needs?
Yes. We accommodate all children and their individual learning needs.

Is there a school uniform?
Yes, details of the school uniform will be made available to families who are admitted through our lottery.

How do I apply to Rochester Prep?
Children who are eligible to enroll in fifth grade at a Rochester public school for September 2009 can enroll at Rochester Prep. As there are more students who wish to attend our school than spaces available, Rochester Prep will conduct a public lottery to select our students on a random basis from all completed Applications. Call 585-436-8629 to register for one of our Information Sessions. At our Information Sessions you will be able to complete an Application Form in person, meet our Principal, and ask questions about the school.
