FROM NEWARK AIRPORT
Take US-1/US-9 North toward Route 21/US-22 toward Newark. Merge onto McCarter Highway/Route 21. Take first exit on to Broad Street. Follow Broad Street about 2 miles. Turn left on Washington Place.
FROM GARDEN STATE PARKWAY - NORTH OR SOUTH
Take Exit 145 to I-280 East and follow directions below.
FROM I-280 EAST
Exit 14 (Martin Luther King Blvd). At stoplight, turn right. Get in left lane and turn left at next light (Orange Ave). You'll see the abandoned Westinghouse Factory on your left. At the end of Orange, you'll see Riverfront Stadium over your left shoulder and Music City directly in front of you. This is Broad Street. Turn right. Stay in the right lane. After one block, you'll see Washington Park on your right. At the very end of the park, make a hard right onto Washington Place. As soon as you've made your turn, you'll see North Star Academy on your left.
FROM I-78/ROUTE 24
Make your way to Garden State Parkway and follow directions above.
FROM THE WEST
Take I-287 to I-80 to I-280 East and follow the directions above.
FROM THE NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE - NORTH OR SOUTH
Take Exit 15W to I-280 West and follow directions below.
FROM I-280 WEST
Exit 15A (Rte. 21 South/Newark). Follow ramp straight down to stoplight (Broad Street). Turn left at light onto Broad. You will go under the highway and pass Riverfront Stadium on your left. Make your way toward the right lane. You'll see Washington Park on your right. At the very end of the park, make a hard right onto Washington Place. As soon as you've made your turn, you'll see North Star Academy on your left.
FROM THE EAST
From Lincoln Tunnel, take NJ Turnpike South to I-280 West (Exit 15W) and follow directions above.
New Jersey Transit and PATH Trains are within walking distance to the school. Trains from New York Penn Station run directly to Newark Broad Street Station, which is a four-block walk from the school. New Jersey Transit and PATH Trains will take you to Newark Penn Station in downtown Newark. You can walk, take a cab, or find a bus (#72, #76 or Loop shuttle) from the station.
FROM NEWARK PENN STATION (10-15 minute walk)
If you decide to walk, exit Penn Station and walk West (up the hill) on Raymond Boulevard for 3 blocks. Take a right on Broad Street (major intersection). Walk approximately four blocks and take a left on Washington Place. North Star is on your left.
FROM NEWARK BROAD STREET STATION (5-7 minute walk)
Exit the station and walk parallel to the train tracks. Cross the street immediately in front of you (Washington Street) and take a right on the next street (100 feet in front of you)--Broad Street. Walk four blocks on Broad Street. You'll see a triangular park--Washington Park--on your right. North Star is at the far end of the park on Washington Place.

From Newark Penn Station
Head northeast on W. Raymond Plaza toward Raymond Blv. Turn left at Raymond Blv. Turn left at Mulberry Stree. Turn right at Market Stree. Slight left at CR-603/Rt-124/Springfield Avenu. Turn left at Bergen Stree. Turn right at Clinton Avenue.
From I-280 East
Take the Oraton Parkway/Garden State Parkway Exit off of I-280 East. Keep right at the fork, follow signs for Garden State Parkway and Local. Keep left at the fork, follow signs for Garden State Parkway South and merge onto Garden State Parkway South. Follow instructions for Garden State Parkway South.
From Garden State Parkway—South
Take Exit 143 toward Irvington/Springfield Avenue. Merge onto Western Parkway. Continue on Washington Avenue. Turn left at Clinton Avenue.
From the New Jersey Turnpike—North/Garden State Parkway--North
Take Exit 11 to merge onto Garden State Parkway Nort. Take Exit 143 toward Irvington/Springfield Avenue. Turn left at Cleremont Avenue. Continue on Ball Street. Turn right at Clinton Avenue.
New Jersey Transit and PATH Trains will take you to Newark Penn Station in downtown Newark. From there, you can take a cab to the school using the directions above. The ride will take approximately 10 minutes.

The Elementary Campus is located at 24 Hazelwood Avenue, occupying the second floor at the former site of Sacred Heart School. It is a 20 minute drive from the Downtown Campus. Call 973-622-5610 if you have any questions.

From North Star Academy - Downtown Campus
Take Broad Street South through Downtown Newark. Turn right on Poinier Street, which is the last street before Broad Street becomes a ramp to several highways.
Go one block on Poinier Street and then turn left on Frelinghuysen Ave. Take Frelinghysen 1.4 miles, then turn right onto Dayton Street. The Dayton Street School will be on the left. The Elementary Campus entrance is accessible from the parking lot; however, guests should park on Dayton Street.
From Newark Penn Station
Take McCarter Hwy (RT-21) South through Downtown Newark. After McCarter Hwy becomes and elevated highway ramp, take the US-22 W ramp toward Hillside. Merge right and take the first exit to Frelinghuysen Ave. Turn left on Frelinghuysen Ave, go .5 miles, then turn right onto Dayton Street. The Dayton Street School will be on the left. The Elementary Campus entrance is accessible from the parking lot; however, guests should park on Dayton Street.
From Newark Airport
Take US 1-9 North ramp and take the first exit for Haynes Ave. The Haynes Avenue bridge is currently under construction, so use the ramp to U-turn onto US 1-9 South. Take US 1-9 South to the next ext which is McClellan Street. Turn Right on McClellan St. Turn Righ at Frelinghuysen. Turn left at Evergreen Ave, and then turn Right on Dayton Street. Proceed down Haynes Ave which will deadend into Frelinghuysen Ave. Turn left on Frelinghuysen Ave, and take an immediate right onto Dayton Street. The Dayton Street School will be on the right. The Elementary Campus entrance is accessible from the parking lot; however, guests should park on Dayton Street.
From US 1-9 South
From the Pulaski Skyway (US 1-9 South Express), take the exit for US 1-9 South LOCAL which is immediately after the Raymond Blvd. exit. This exit will lead to the left lane of US 1-9 South Local - stay in this lane. Avoid exit for US 1-9 South Express and Newark Airport (on left). Take exit for Route 22 (on right) toward Hillside. Merge right and take the first exit to Frelinghuysen Ave. Turn left on Frelinghuysen Ave, go .5 miles, then turn right onto Dayton Street. The Dayton Street School will be on the left. The Elementary Campus entrance is accessible from the parking lot; however, guests should park on Dayton Street.
From Garden State Parkway North or South
Exit to I-78 East. From I-78 East, take exit 58A for US 1-9 South. Follow directions above from US 1-9 South.
From the East
From Holland Tunnel, take Route 139 West to US 1-9 South / Pulaski Skyway. Follow directions above from US 1-9 South.
From Lincoln Tunnel, take NJ Turnpike South to I-280 West (Exit 15W) and follow directions above.
From Newark Penn Station
The Elementary Campus is not easily accessible by public transportation. The best way to access the school is by car. Print directions above from Penn Station. Taxis are available at Newark Penn Station.
From Newark Broad Street Station
The Elementary Campus is not easily accessible by public transportation. The best way to access the school is by car. If you take the train to the Newark Broad Street Station, you will need to take a taxi from there. Take Broad Street South through Downtown Newark. When Broad Street ends take ramp for McCarter Hwy/ Rt. 21-S.
Merge onto US-1-9 S via the ramp to Elizabeth/Newark Airport. Take the Haynes Ave exit at the Wyndham Hotel (the Haynes Ave sign is easy to miss). Proceed down Haynes Ave which will deadend into Frelinghuysen Ave. Turn left on Frelinghuysen Ave, and take an immediate right onto Dayton Street. The Dayton Street School will be on the left. Parking is available in the lot at the far end of the school. The Elementary Campus entrance is accessible from the parking lot. |
