Application Process

  • You apply online by clicking on the “apply to Uncommon” button on the career opportunities page or navigating to “Apply” anywhere else you see that option on our site. You will get a chance to read all job descriptions there, and submit applications to any positions.
  • You will need to submit a resume and answer additional questions. You will not be able to save an application as you go along, but you will be able to re-enter the application portal with a username (your email address) and password (whatever you enter as a password when originally logging in) in order to apply to other jobs.
  • You will get an email letting you know that we’ve received your application. If any information is missing or incomplete, we will reach out to you via email to request it. If your experience aligns with a role we are looking to fill and we are interested in moving forward with your application, you will hear from us about next steps in the process.

  • The first step of the process will be a phone interview with your recruiter.

  • Next Steps If we are interested in continuing your interview process beyond the initial phone interview, you will either interview with a school leader or a Home Office staff member.
  • Sample Lessons If you are interviewing for a teacher role, you will be requested to conduct a sample lesson at the school site. All additional relevant information will be shared with you to prepare for that sample lesson, and you will have an opportunity to ask the hiring manager any questions you may have.
  • Reference Checks As part of the interview process, three professional references will be requested at this stage. We ask that you share the names, email addresses, and phone numbers of your references and that you explain how they know you. One of your professional references should be your current or most recent manager.

  • Uncommon Schools has one recruitment process across all of its schools. In other words, you will not apply directly to one specific Uncommon school. On the common application, you can specify your regional, grade level, and subject area preferences. If you are interested in a particular school or region, please be sure to include that information on your application so our recruitment team can appropriately distribute your application!
