Laura Maestas joined Uncommon Schools in August 2011. She is responsible for all business and operating aspects of Uncommon’s Taxonomy-based teacher training tools. Prior to Uncommon, Laura was the Director of Strategy for the NYC Department of Education’s Office of School Leadership. In that capacity, Laura led cross-division work to revamp the standard for principal tenure, identified bargaining objectives for upcoming labor negotiations, and developed a framework for evaluating the strength of talent resources in persistently low-performing schools. Before the DOE, she was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company, where she worked with school systems on their strategic priorities and led internal knowledge efforts. Laura holds a JD from New York University’s School of Law and a BA in Political Science and economics from Kenyon College. She is a member of the New York bar.
