Sara Batterton received her M.B.A. from Columbia Business School in 2007 with a concentration in Real Estate and Finance. During her time at Columbia, Ms. Batterton was a recipient of the Forté Fellowship for Women in Business and a Teaching Assistant for the Real Estate Finance course, and also managed the school's fundraising efforts for the Social Enterprise Summer Fellowship Program. Ms. Batterton joined Uncommon Schools as Director of Real Estate in the summer of 2008. Prior to this, she worked as an Associate at Jones Lang LaSalle, a commercial real estate firm, providing real estate finance and development consulting to public agencies. Ms. Batterton's previous experience also includes roles in community economic development with the Higher Education Public Finance group at Lehman Brothers, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, and the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions. In these roles she was responsible for managing foundation investments in affordable housing and financial services and also worked to develop innovative financial services delivery programs for low-income families and communities. She received her B.A. cum laude in Political Science and Spanish from Columbia University.
