At Uncommon Schools, candidates can consider multiple schools within one network at any given time. That said, candidates cannot consider schools across networks. This is done to make the process less cumbersome for candidates and more efficient for our schools. We're seeking smart, problem-solving, and passionate teachers who want to be part of a dynamic team. We're looking for self-reflective teachers whose goal is to become better and better teachers. We want teachers who believe that change can truly change things, who are confident in what they are doing but humble enough to know they can always do a better job. To fulfill our college preparatory mission, we need an extraordinary group of teachers to create an outstanding academic program.

We are looking for teachers who:

  • believe in measuring student academic achievement in tangible ways.
  • believe that data should drive classroom instruction and that a school's curriculum should be based on clear and rigorous standards.
  • believe that everyone at a school should be held strictly accountable for their work: students, parents, teachers, administrators, and Board members.
  • believe we must all do whatever it takes to make sure a student learns.
  • believe the best way we can instill confidence in students, and prepare them for college, is to ensure they first master a core set of academic skills before tackling higher-level, abstract material.
  • believe in having the highest expectations for all students and not making excuses for them, for the school, or for staff.
  • believe in building a positive school culture where respect, enthusiasm, effort, achievement, perseverance, community, and hard work are valued.
  • believe that for every problem, there is a solution, that if we can't find the answer immediately, we simply work longer, harder, and smarter.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate a mastery of subject knowledge, a proven ability to manage a classroom, and an entrepreneurial spirit and approach to teaching and school reform. Ideally, candidates will have at least two years of teaching experience in an urban school.
